GSM: The Weight Behind a Good Night’s Sleep

Now, you might be asking yourself, “What in tarnation is GSM when it comes to blankets?” Well, lemme tell you, it’s somethin’ to keep in mind if you want a good night’s sleep under the stars or in your own bed.

GSM stands for “grams per square meter.” It’s like weighin’ a piece of fabric to see how hefty it is. A higher GSM means more fibers packed in tighter, like a herd of cattle crowded around a waterhole. And generally speakin’, a higher GSM means a warmer, heavier blanket.

Think of it this way: a thin cotton sheet, that might have a GSM of 100 or so. Light as a feather, but it ain’t gonna keep you warm when the wind’s howlin’ outside. Now, a thick wool blanket, that could have a GSM of 400 or more. Heavy as a gold prospector’s pouch, but it’ll keep you cozy even in a blizzard.

So, when you’re pickin’ out your next blanket, pay attention to the GSM. If you’re sleepin’ hot, you’ll want somethin’ lighter with a lower GSM. But if you’re like me and always feelin’ a chill, go for a higher GSM and sleep like you’re wrapped in a bear hug.
