Blanket Sizing for Your Bunkhouse

A man’s bed is his castle, they say, especially after a long day on the range. And just like a good horse blanket, you need the right fit for yourself. A blanket too small leaves a fella out in the cold, while one too big bunches up like a stampede in a canyon.

First off, what size is your bedroll, partner? Twin, full, queen, king–these days they got more sizes than a cattle drive. Best rule of thumb: match the blanket size to the bed size.

Now, if you’re a generous soul who likes to share, you might go a mite bigger. That way, if your better half gets to hogging the covers, you can still pull up a corner without freezin’ your toes off. But go too big, and you’ll be trippin’ over the darn thing come morning.

And don’t forget the drop. You want a good 12 inches or so hanging over the sides, unless you like tucking yourself in tighter than a calf at branding time.

Finally, consider what you like. Some fellas like a blanket that drapes like a saddle blanket on a fine stallion, while others prefer it snug as a bug. Just like picking a hat, personal preference goes a long way.
